teaching

I am an Associate lecturer at the Royal College of Art (MA Animation) and UAL Central Saint Martins (MA Character Animation).

My areas of interest include character animation, storytelling, comedy in animation, sound design and coding. I originally trained in 3D, now use predominantly 2D but am interested in mixed media and hybrid ways of working.

I was the external examiner for BA Animation Arts Lasalle College of the Arts, 2024-2026.

embodying voice
I have been running the Embodying Voice workshop at the RCA since 2017. This project looks at interpreting dialogue through "character" animation, in its broadest form.

In class, we look at the basics of lip sync and performance, but also work to push the fundamental principles of animation - playing with exaggeration, smears and more loosey goosey abstracted approaches to sound and movement.

I took part in this workshop as an RCA student when it was led by Matt Abbiss and it had a profound impact on how I approach character animation and visual storytelling.

Here's a small sample of the incredible student work produced over the years:

john summerson - b.t.s (2018)

qing (noah) yang (2023)

yutong zhang (2025)

Inari Sirola (2018)

Laura-Jayne Hodkin (2017)

Nerian Keywan (2021)
